HGBA Season Registration

Hopkins Girls Basketball Association is open to all girls in grades 3 through 8 who attend a school in the Hopkins district (this includes schools that are not Hopkins district public schools).

All skill levels are welcome. HGBA strives to provide opportunity to players who want to participate in our program. To meet this goal, HGBA may need to create combination teams, but at times cuts are necessary. The best way to ensure this goal is met is to help keep participant numbers up so that multiple teams can be formed at each grade level.

We work to keep our program one of the most affordable programs around and to give an opportunity for everyone to join regardless of financial need. Parent, guardian and volunteer help give us that opportunity. We are also seeking local business sponsorship again this year. Full details about the costs of the program can be found on our registration page.

Weekend tournaments are typically played at different levels (A, B, C)

*5th-8th graders typically play in one overnight tournament

Many tournaments no longer have gate fees! We will provide details on each tournament as we hear more.

Uniforms

We are updating our uniforms in 2026 so all players in grades 4-8 will need a new uniform. Uniforms consist of a reversible jersey, shorts and a shooting shirt.

Grade 3 uses reversible jerseys provided by HGBA that are returned at the end of season. Athletes will wear their own shorts (usually black). 3rd grade registration includes a shooting shirt that players get to keep.

4th Grade - $500

5th Grade - $500

6th Grade - $600

7th Grade - $600

Extra Costs

Parents should be aware that there are additional costs for participating in the travel program that are their responsibility. Additional costs include uniforms, admission fees for tournaments that don’t operate under the No Gate Fee Model (usually $10 per adult, $5 per student per day), expenses of traveling to and from tournaments, and overnight lodging and food costs for the Rochester Tournament.

Volunteer Requirements

Your help allows HGBA to be one of the most affordable programs around and gives us an opportunity to offer scholarships so that every girl who wants to play has an opportunity to do so.

HGBA’s primary fundraising is in the fall as we host and volunteer at the Fall Breakdown League.

Families are required to work a designated amount of volunteer hours during the Fall Breakdown League held at Royals Athletic Center at Hopkins High School. The amount of hours is dependent upon the number of kids in the program. An e-mail will be sent to all families listing available volunteer spots. In addition, sign-up for shifts will be available at evaluations. We recommend signing up for your shifts as soon as possible.

HGBA requires each family to submit a $200 volunteer deposit check. Once the volunteer hours are fulfilled, the deposit checks will be destroyed.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I don't live in Hopkins, can I play for your team?

Athletes are allowed to participate with only one MYBA member association or school for the winter community-based youth basketball season.

Athletes must try out and compete with the travel basketball association where they attend school (some exceptions are listed below).

If a travel basketball opportunity through an association, school, community education, or similar does not exist in the area representing the youth athlete’s school attendance area, or if the athlete has been cut or restricted from their home association, they may participate with a bordering association. In this situation, the athlete does not need to complete the Player Transfer process.

Full eligibility details can be found here on the MYAS website.

Still have questions? Email us at info@hopkinsgba.org and we'll help you out.

Can parents volunteer to coach?

Yes! We need parent volunteers at all grades, for head coach and assistant coach roles. More information is available here (scroll down)

You will need to complete this form to be considered for a coaching position.

What is 3rd grade like?

3rd grade developmental program will allow for 3rd graders to engage with HGBA, focusing on the fundamentals of basketball in a fun environment while also gaining valuable game experience.

HGBA will participate in the MYAS 3rd Grade Program. This includes 5 tournaments, played on Saturdays, starting in Dec. This new program ensures competition will be 3rd grade only, and limits the amount of travel for our youngest athletes.
